Albrecht Schnabel
Albrecht Schnabel "joined swisspeace in 2003 as a senior research fellow. He is director of the research program on human security (HUSEC), coordinator of the Bern-based team of swisspeace' early warning program FAST International, and researcher in the swisspeace-based work package "governance and conflict" of NCCR North-South. He is furthermore a lecturer in International Organizations and Conflict Management at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Bern. Schnabel was educated at the University of Munich, the University of Nevada, and Queen's University, Canada, where he received his Ph.D. in Political Studies in 1995. He has taught at Queen's University (1994), the American University in Bulgaria (1995-96), the Central European University (1996-1998), and Aoyama Gakuin University (2002-03). Most recently, he served as Academic Officer in the Peace and Governance Programme of the United Nations University, Tokyo, Japan (1998-2003). In 1997 he was a visiting research fellow at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg and participated in OSCE election monitoring missions in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since 1999 he has been a trainer for the UN System Staff College course on Early Warning and Early Response and, in 2001-02, president of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC). He has published widely on ethnic conflict, refugees, conflict prevention and management, peacekeeping, post-conflict peacebuilding, and human security." [1]
