Ali Parsa
Ali Parsa is chairman of Centres of Clinical Excellence, a private healthcare group in the UK. In October 2005, The Guardian reported that the group was planning "to build a chain of private hospitals across England in partnership with hundreds of frustrated NHS consultants... The venture, probably the biggest private investment in hospital construction since the NHS was founded in 1948, has been triggered by the government's plans for patient choice, identified by Tony Blair in his speech to the Labour conference as the big theme of his third term. From 2008 people needing an operation will be entitled to select any hospital - public or private - that can work within NHS cost limits. The treatment will remain free for the patient and the hospital will be reimbursed by the taxpayer." [1]
According to The Guardian, Parsa is "a former merchant banker with Goldman Sachs" [2].
Parsa's role at Goldman Sachs may have been as executive director of its media and technology business, as someone of that name, representing Goldman Sachs, appears in the list of participants in the "Streaming Europe" conference in October 2000 [3] [4].
"Ali Parsa is a social entrepreneur who co-founded Circle in 2004. His personal belief that employees should own the companies they work for has pioneered a new model of delivery in both public and independent UK healthcare provision. Prior to Circle, Ali was an executive director of Goldman Sachs’ European technology investment banking team. He also worked at Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse First Boston.
"He has a PhD in Engineering Physics from the University of London. Ali won the award for Entrepreneurial Achievement in the 2010 Independent Healthcare Awards, was named in the 100 most influential people in UK healthcare in the Health Service Journal’s annual survey in 2010 and has been shortlisted for “outstanding contribution by an individual” in the 2011 Health Investor Awards. Ali is a member of the Employee Ownership Association National Council, the chairman of CBI Healthcare Panel and a member of CBI Public Sector Services Board." [1]
