Alliance Against Counterfeiting and Piracy
The Alliance Against Counterfeiting and Piracy is an industry organisation in the United Kingdom, which 'seeks to strengthen and bring consistency to existing laws in the area of intellectual property. We aim to ensure that legitimate business flourishes, consumers are not put at risk by exposure to shoddy, substandard and potentially dangerous merchandise, and those whose creativity will drive forward the UK economy in the 21st century have sufficient protection to defend their ideas and sufficient incentive to innovate.' [1]
It wants the burden of proof for copyright cases reversed! ' The Alliance believes the burden of proof should be reversed - that those accused of illegal copying should be responsible for proving they have agreement from the copyright holder.'
It is made up of industry organisations itself, mostly those representing big vested interests in the media business. It gives support to the Intellectual Property Protection APPG.
