Amir Dossal

Amir Dossal "is Executive Director of the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships, responsible for managing the partnership between the United Nations and the UN Foundation – the philanthropic initiative established by Ted Turner wherein he committed $1 billion for UN causes. Under Mr. Dossal’s leadership UNFIP provides advisory services and also builds new alliances with corporations, foundations and philanthropists to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

"Amir has been behind numerous partnerships for the United Nations, guiding the development of strategic alliances with corporations, foundations and philanthropists for achieving the Millennium Development Goals. These include the Coca-Cola Company, Commonwealth Business Council, US Chamber of Commerce, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, European Foundation Centre, Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Synergos. He has also spearheaded UN’s engagement in new areas such as the technology sector working with Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Microsoft and Vodafone. The United Nation’s engagement with the UN Foundation has led to an exponential growth in enquiries from the private sector, as a result, UNFIP has evolved into the UN’s Office for Partnerships.

"In 2005, Amir established a strategic Fund for Democracy (www.un.org/democracyfund), to strengthen democratic institutions and enhance democratic governance in new or restored democracies. Earlier this year, he led the Transition Team to set-up the first ever Peace-building Support Office to help bridge development gaps in post-conflict countries.

"Born in Pakistan, Amir was educated there and in the United Kingdom, where he settled. He is a Chartered Accountant (FCA - England and Wales) having qualified from Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, London in 1975. He has lived and worked in Asia, Arab States, Caribbean, Europe and North America. He is married with one son."
