Andrew Forrest
Andrew Forrest is the richest man in Australia, and he "founded the Australian Childrens Trust in 2001 and enjoys similar not-for-profit roles as President of Athletics Australia and assisting the Women and Infants Research Foundation (WIRF). He is active in children-based initiatives working also with Professor John Newnham in the WIRF, a leading Perth based international authority on mother, new born and prenatal health research and care.
"In business life he founded Minara Resources, previously known as Anaconda Nickel, launching and commissioning its $1.5 billion Murrin Murrin Nickel/Cobalt operation. It is now one of Australia's largest resource industries. He is CEO of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd, an iron ore and infrastructure group which will come into production in May 2008, and Chairman of Poseidon Nickel Ltd. Previously he held Chairman and Director roles in the Investment Banking industry and Minerals and Energy Chamber (WA).
"Andrew’s commitment to helping underprivileged children is well known and he has been at the forefront of initiating programs for the benefit of children across Australia. He is the primary funder of the ACT and a central driver of the philosophy to help people in the long term - not simply short term relief but to assist people to gain the skills to help themselves; the fishing rod, not the fish." [1]
"He has also been a Director of Australia's Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, Executive Councillor for the Western Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy and Chairman of Athletics Australia. In addition to his role as CEO at FMG, Mr. Forrest maintains non-executive interests in the developing resource sector and charitable groups: he is currently Chairman of Moly Mines Ltd, Chairman of the Australian Children Trust and Chairman of Siberia Mining Corporation Limited, soon to merge with Monarch Resources Limited, where he has been invited to join the Monarch Board as a non-executive Director. Mr. Forrest was appointed to the Board on 10 April 2003." [2]
