Andrew Schauder is a consultant with the Ashcroft Group, a Washington, DC-based lobbying firm founded by former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft in May 2005.[1] He joined the firm as a consultant in 2009.[2]

The focus of the firm is "strategic consulting, security and internal investigative services, and crisis counseling," for countries, corporations and industry and political associations, reported The Hill.[3] O'Dwyer's PR Daily described the firm's anticipated work as to advise "countries on how to beef up law enforcement capabilities and best combat terror" and "U.S. companies on homeland security and governance issues."[4]

Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council

As an Ashcroft Group consultant, Schauder represents client American Traffic Solutions, a provider of "road safety camera and electronic toll enforcement programs,"[5] as a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Public Safety and Elections Task Force.[6] He led discussion of "ALEC and Automated Enforcement Devices" at the 2011 ALEC Annual Meeting Public Safety and Elections Task Force meeting.[6] On April 13, 2012, ATS announced that it would not renew its ALEC membership in June 2012.[7]

"He created and managed a federal outreach program that increased the visibility and effectiveness of the organization and its members. Andrew built unprecedented levels of participation and engagement between ALEC’s public and private sector members and Congress." [8]

While he was at ALEC in 2005, Schauder's salary paid by ALEC was $79,625. [9]

About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills.
