Anhui Bengbu power station (国电蚌埠发电公司) is a 2,520-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Anhui province, China.

Background on Plant
The two existing 600 MW units of Anhui Bengbu power station were brought online in 2008 and 2009. It is one of the supporting power plants for "the Electricity sent from Anhui to the east coast project".[1]
The plant is invested by China Guodian, Anhui Wenergy, and Bengbu Construction investment Co, Ltd. The total investment is 4.96 billion RMB (about US$740 million). The proportion of the investment from 3 sponsors is 55%, 35%, and 10%.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
Description of Expansion
Guodian is currently planning to build two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW. The new units were scheduled to be completed in 2015, at a projected cost of US$700 million.[8]
Construction was originally slated to begin in 2012,[9] however the project did not receive environmental clearance until 2015.[10] In 2015 construction began on the units.[11]
The units are planned for completion in 2017.[12]
2017: Expansion postponed by government
In July 2017, the NEA released the "Guideline of Supply-Side Reform of the Coal Power Bubble". The Guideline included a draft list which slowed down or halted 185 coal-burning units across 21 provinces, totaling 107 GW. 114 coal units (65 GW) are ordered to slow down the construction progress during 2017 to 2020, and are not allowed to connect to the grid in 2017. In addition, 71 coal units (42 GW) were halted indefinitely for regulation violations. The list partly overlapped with the projects listed in the January NEA letter to 13 provinces.[13]
Anhui Bengbu power station Units 3-4 are among the postponed coal-burning units,[13] and also appeared on an updated list of postponements released in September 2017.[14]

2018: Units 3-4 commissioned
In April 2018, unit 3 was reported as completed and operating. Construction on unit 4 was ongoing.[15] Satellite photos for September 2017 and March 2018 show construction substantially completed as of March 2018.[16]
Unit 4 was commissioned on June 21, 2018.[17]
Ownership
On August 28 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[18][19] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[20]
