Annette Makino
Annette Makino "is Senior Vice-President for Communications and External Affairs at Internews, where she directs communications and public relations strategy and serves as one of four corporate officers managing the organization. As head of communications, Makino coordinates media contacts, directs outreach, oversees the Internews Network web site, and edits and produces print publications. She also manages internal communications for Internews staff, ensuring the clear flow of information within the organization through an employee intranet, company databases, and employee newsletters. Makino¹s responsibilities for corporate affairs include serving as corporate secretary to the board of directors.
"Before holding this position, Makino served as Administrative Director for six years, responsible for grant management, proposal writing, budget review, grant contract negotiation, personnel management and other administrative aspects of Internews programs. She joined Internews in 1989 as Administrative Assistant to the President. In her 18-year career at Internews, Makino has been instrumental in managing Internews Network's growth from a handful of people in the US and a budget of $400,000 per year to a staff of some 500 people worldwide, with offices in 23 countries and a budget of $26 million in 2007.
"Prior to joining Internews, Makino worked as a small business owner and manager for two environmentally oriented businesses, and as a full-time research assistant at the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University. She has also worked providing outreach and graphic design services for several non-profit organizations, including the Student Center for Innovation and Research in Education at Stanford and Bechtel International Center. She has a B.A. in International Relations from Stanford and speaks German and French." [1]
