Background on Plant
The four-unit, 400-MW coal-fired Artyomovskaya power station is owned by RusHydro. The plant’s four units were brought online between 1961 and 1969.[1][2][3]
In July 2018 the Ministry of Energy announced a program of financial incentives for transitioning coal-fired plants to run on gas.[4] In November 2018 the Far Eastern Generating Co. tendered the construction of a gas-fired plant that would be built by 2020 and would replace the plant's coal-fired units.[5] In May 2019 RusHydro announced that a 91-billion ruble modernization of the plant was scheduled for 2026.[6] In July 2019 the Russian government ordered that the plant's coal-fired units would be retired upon completion of the new gas-fired plant in 2026.[7]
