Location
The plant would be located in Indonesia; suggested locations have been Kalimantan, Sumatra, or Sulawesi.
Background on Plant
According to a July 2013 article in the Jakarta Post, Astratel Nusantara, a subsidiary of Astra International, is considering a coal-fired power plant at an unspecified location in Kalimantan. According to Astra International chief group treasury and investor relations officer Iwan Hadiantoro, the project would be a joint venture with a an unnamed European company.[1][2]
In February 2015, the company reiterated its desire to build the plant, now specified as "at least 100 MW." The company was now less specific about the location, stating that the plant could be in Sumatra or Sulawesi. The company stated that it would need to line up private-sector partners. Specifics of whether it would be a mine-mouth or IPP plant were not available at the time.[3]
In November 2015 a company official said that Astra is looking for a partner to join in a tender for a 2 x 300 MW project in southern Sumatra.[4]
As of November 2019 there had been no additional news about this project, and it appears to have been cancelled.
