Background on Plant

Sahaviriya Steel Group planned construction of a smelting plant in the Bang Saphan district of Prachuab Khiri Khan, upper southern Thailand. The plant has been opposed by local conservation groups who say its initial permits were issued illegally; a land permit for the plant was later revoked as a forgery.[1] With no subsequent reports that the project is proceeding, it is presumed to have been abandoned.
