Basic Bass Fishing Tournament was a proposal to sponsor three bass fishing tournaments to advertise Basic brand cigarettes to blue collar, lower-income young male smokers. Over 100,000 amateur fishermen compete, with over 600,000 spectators. The promotion expected to appeal to an estimated 25 million bass fishermen in the U.S. Basic brand would be identified on weight scales, boat rigs, entry form, rule sheets, hats, T-shirts, etc., and free samples would be given away. The promotion was expected to cost $350,000.[1]
