Background
State-owned Philippine National Oil Co. is planning a liquefied natural gas integrated facility in Batangas by 2020. PNOC said it has so far received interest from 26 companies for a possible partnership in the LNG project, including Osaka Gas, Shell, First Gen and China Petroleum Corp. (Sinopec). The project would include a floating and storage facility, liquefaction, regassification and a 200-megawatt power plant, which could be scaled up to 800 MW.[1] First Gen Corp has expressed interest in acquiring at least a 30 percent stake to underwrite investment risk and move the project forward; however, as of May 2017 no agreement had been signed. [2]
In January 2019 PNOC announced that the project was cancelled.[3]
