Bhagalpur Power Project

Background
The project is proposed by by Adhunik Power and Natural Resources. A mid-2011 news report stated that a coal allocation for the project had not been made. The proposed commissioning date was 2013.[1]
The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) approved the proposed power project on February 1, 2010. In June 2010 the approval was amended at the request of the company, to "establish that project at Pirpainti Block, Bhagalpur in the new name as M/S Ganga Power & Natural Resources. The company's proposal was further amended in January 2011 for the project to be expanded to a 2640 MW plant established in two phases. The SIPB also notes that another Adhunik Group subsidiary, Adhunik Metaliks, had proposed a 2.2 million tonnes per annum steel mill at Kahalgaon, which was approved by the board in February 2010.[2] It is unclear whether the proposed power station is intended as a captive power station for the steel mill.
An August 2011 investor presentation by the Adhunik Group refers to the project as a 1320 MW project. It also notes that a coal linkage had been applied for, a water allocation yet to be approved, part of the land is still to be acquired, environmental clearance is still to be approved and transmission to the grid is awaiting approval. The company had yet to start organising finance for the project.[3]
In November 2013, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, managing director at Adhunik Group, told SteelGuru, "We are working on Super Critical Thermal Power Plants at Janjgir Champa in Chhattisgarh and Bhagalpur in Bihar for 2x660 MW power plants at each site location,"[4] suggesting phase II has been cancelled. Agarwal reiterated the company's plans for a 1320 MW coal plant in a May 2014 interview.[5]
As of September 2016 the project has yet to receive environmental clearance from the India MoEF, and plans appear to be deferred or abandoned.
As of December 2016 the project is no longer mentioned on the website of Adhunik Power and Natural Resources. It appears to be abandoned.
