Bledsoe Coal No 4 is part of the underground Bledsoe Mining Complex in eastern Kentucky, owned by James River Coal Company.
On April 12, 2011, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration announced that it had issued a notice of a pattern of violations to two coal mining operations under Section 104(e) of the federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977: Bledsoe Coal Corp.’s Abner Branch Rider Mine in Leslie County, Ky., and the New West Virginia Mining Co.’s Apache Mine in McDowell County, W.Va.[1]
