Bowie IGCC Power Station

The Bowie Power Station was originally proposed as a natural gas 1,000 megawatt (MW) plant in 2001, and in 2003 the project was granted a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility by the Arizona Corporation Commission. The plant, backed by private investor funds, was planned as an IGCC project; it would have used coal from New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado.[1].
In April 2007, the Cochise County Planning and Zoning Commission put a hold on the project’s air permit until the Cochise County Board of Supervisors could vote on the plan. On August 31, 2007, SouthWestern Power Group announced that the Bowie project would switch to natural gas.[2]
The Cochise County Board of Supervisors approved the revised plant on Sept. 18, 2007.[3]
