BRIGHTON BEACH POWER COMPLETES COMMISSIONING OF POWER PLANT IN WINDSOR, ONTARIO
July 21, 2004 - Windsor, Ontario: Brighton Beach Power L.P., a limited partnership formed by ATCO Power Ltd and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), announced today that the 580 megawatt combined cycle gas fired power plant located in Windsor, Ontario was declared fully operational on July 16, 2004.
Construction of the power plant required approximately two million person hours from a highly skilled workforce that peaked with 775 people on site early in 2004. The economic benefits to Ontario, and Windsor in particular, are substantial with capital expenditures of over $500 million, plus the ongoing benefits from the operation of the plant with 32 permanent employees living and working in the Windsor area. With commissioning complete, the plant is now fully capable of supplying power to the Ontario grid. Coral Energy Canada Inc. will exclusively supply natural gas to and market the electricity generated by the plant.
"ATCO, OPG and Coral are to be congratulated for providing Ontario with this state-of-the-art combined cycle gas plant," said Energy Minister Dwight Duncan. "I am particularly pleased that the Windsor area has been able to benefit so much from this project."
