Bruce E. Kahn

Rabbi Dr. Bruce E. Kahn Chair of the Personnel Committee for Equal Rights Center.

"In 1983, Rabbi Bruce E. Kahn joined with five clergy from different faith groups as the founding board members of the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington. In 1999, the Fair Housing Council merged with the Fair Employment Council and became the Equal Rights Center. Rabbi Kahn served on the ERC Board of Directors until June 23, 2004, when he assumed the post of Executive Director. His background includes 25 years working as a full time congregational rabbi and 32 years in the Naval Reserve.

"Rabbi Kahn’s activities in the civil rights community include these credits among others: a founding member of Interfaith Social and Legislative Action Group of Virginia; a founding member of Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of Richmond; a tester for Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Richmond, VA; a co-chair of Montgomery County Response to Burned Churches in the South; a founding member of Rabbis for Human Rights North America; the founding president of Amcha For Tsedakah, Jewish People For Righteous Giving; and a member of the Montgomery County Committee on Hate/Violence.

"Several local and national organizations have honored him for his commitments to civil rights. Rabbi Kahn is the author of many articles and reports appearing in both academic works and the popular press."
