Buick Coal and Power Project
{{#Badges: CoalSwarm}} Radar Acquisitions Corp., of Calgary, Alberta, had proposed a 500 MW mine mouth lignite-fueled power plant (Buick Coal and Power Project) near Limon, Colorado, where it owns 22,500 acres of surface rights and coal.[1]
Having abandoned its plan for a pulverized coal plant, Radar entered into a deal in March 2007 with West Hawk Development to explore the possibility of an IGCC plant at the location. Under the terms of the deal, West Hawk would explore the possibility of an IGCC plant on the site, and if favorable would supply 50 percent of the necessary financing and become a partner in the project with Radar.[2]
On January 3, 2008, Radar announced that the deal with West Hawk had been terminated.[3]
On January 23, 2009, in response to the Public Service Company of Colorado's request for new power generation proposals, Radar announced that it was looking for a new partner for the plant. If accepted, Public Service requires that the facilities be running by May 2015.[4]
