The location of the plant is still undetermined.[1]
Background
According to a March 2013 article in The Irrawaddy, PT Bukit Asam (PTBA), a company owned by the Indonesian government, has proposed to build a 200 MW coal plant at the mouth of a coal mine "which probably does not exist yet."[1] The plant is estimated at US$320 million, and is considered a "test case" for the company before deciding on a second project developing a further 2x200-MW power plant.[2]
In 2015 PTBA finance director Achmad Sudarto said his firm was carrying out a feasibility study for its plan to build power plants in Myanmar and Vietnam. Each would be 2 x 300 MW, with a planned operation date of 2019.[3]
In December 2016, Bukit Asam said it was negotiating with the Ministry of Electricity Myanmar to build a 200 MW (2 x 100 MW) power plant in Myanmar.[4]
As of December 2019 there have been no developments on the project, which appears to be shelved.
