Background

The 390 MW coal plant is operated by EP Energy, a unit of energy and industrial group Energeticky a prumyslovy holding (EPH). EP Energy acquired the plant and adjacent coal mine Schoeningen from E.ON in 2013. After the closure of the Schoeningen mine scheduled for 2017, EP Energy will be able to prolong the operation of the Buschhaus power plant with supplies of brown coal from its Mibrag mines, the company said.
