Background on Project

CPI Fenyi power station comprises three operating units, Unit 7 (100 MW, built in 2003), Unit 8 (210 MW, built in 2006), and Unit 9 (330 MW, built in 2009). All three are subcritical and use bituminous coal.[1] Units 1-6 are retired.

CPI has proposed a 2 x 660 MW expansion (Units 10 and 11). The project was permitted for construction in September 2015.[2]

The project was reported as under construction in October 2015,[3] but construction never began. Construction is now planned to begin in 2017 and operation in 2019.[4]

Construction began in June 2018.[5]

Ownership

In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[6]
