CPI Shanxi Houma power station (中电投山西侯马发电厂) is a 600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Shanxi Province, China.

Background on Plant

The six coal-fired units of Houma-1 power station, totaling 200 MW, were brought online between 1972 and 2004. Units 1-4 were retired in 2007, and units 5-6 in 2017. The plant was originally owned by CPI.

Description of Expansion

Datong Coal Mining Group has proposed expanding the power station by 600 MW (2 x 300 MW), known as Shanxi Houma-2. The expansion began commercial operation in 2014.

Ownership

In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.
