CPI Shanxi Houma power station (中电投山西侯马发电厂) is a 600-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Shanxi Province, China.

Background on Plant

The six coal-fired units of Houma-1 power station, totaling 200 MW, were brought online between 1972 and 2004. Units 1-4 were retired in 2007, and units 5-6 in 2017. The plant was originally owned by CPI.[1]

Description of Expansion

Datong Coal Mining Group has proposed expanding the power station by 600 MW (2 x 300 MW), known as Shanxi Houma-2. The expansion began commercial operation in 2014.[2][3][4]

Ownership

In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[5]
