Location
The map below shows the plant, which is located in Panji District, Huainan Prefecture, Anhui Province.[1]
Background on Plant
The first four coal-fired units of Pingwei-I and Pingwei-II, totaling 2,540 MW, were brought online between 1989 and 2007. The plant was originally owned by CPI.[2][3][4]
Description of Expansion
CPI planned Pingwei-III, consisting of two additional coal-fired units, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in February 2013, and construction began shortly thereafter. The new units are scheduled to be completed in 2015.[5][6][7]
Unit 1 of the expansion began operation in June 2015,[8] and unit 2 in September 2015.[9]
Ownership
In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[10]
