Canadian Journalists for Free Expression

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) was founded in 1981 by the Centre for Investigative Journalism (now the Canadian Association of Journalists) with their work initially focusing on Latin America. In the past CJFE was known as the Canadian Committee to Protect Journalists. [1]

"The CJFE is a Canadian non-governmental organization supported by Canadian journalists and advocates of free expression. The purpose of the organization is to defend the rights of journalists and contribute to the development of media freedom throughout the world. CJFE recognizes these rights are not confined to journalists and strongly supports and defends the broader objective of freedom of expression in Canada and around the world." [2]

"One of the principal activities of CJFE is the management of the world's only freedom of expression clearinghouse, the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX). With the operation of the network as the centrepiece of its work, CJFE has since become a major player in the field of international advocacy in the area of free expression." [3]

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression International Press Freedom Awards

In 2000 they received $160,000 from the Ford Foundation "For activities that promote freedom of expression worldwide." [4]
