Carl Grossmann
"Carl Grossmann is the founder and present Chairman of the African Conservation Trust. Carl is also the sole member of C & F Expeditions CC, a specialist NGO consultancy, based in Durban. Carl holds a National Diploma in Surveying from Technikon Natal and a Masters degree in Environment and Development from UKZN in Pietermaritzburg. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (London, UK) and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest, District 9370. He is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment South Africa (2855) and the South African Council for Professional Land Surveyors and Technical Surveyors (ST288). Carl also worked at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for twenty years. During his time there Carl conceptualised and assisted in the research on oil extraction quantities from the seeds of the Pappea capensis (Jacket Plum) tree as a viable indigenous oil producing feedstock for biodiesel production. Through the African Conservation Trust a pilot project around the planting of Pappea capensis trees was implemented (with funding from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund) at Mphola Village near Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Carl has been involved in biodiesel production for the last eight years culminating in the use of a small batch plant for production of biodiesel for the African Conservation Trust internal operations."[1]
