Center for the Global South
The Center for the Global South "was founded in 1992 at American University's School of International Service (SIS). The Center is a multi-dimensional intellectual resource which examines critical issues affecting the poorer developing countries of the world, increasingly characterized collectively as the South. Since its founding, the center has become a point of reference for a broad audience of leaders from government, business, civil society, and academe. Through conferences, seminars, and summer institutes, the center has examined issues related to global development, the environment, human rights, women, population, the changing international legal order, regional cooperation, security, and the new roles for the United Nations and other international and regional organizations in the post-Cold War era.
"Under the leadership of its director, Clovis Maksoud, the center is dedicated to studying the challenges facing the global South and advancing strategies to address them." [1]
