Centre for the Study of Democracy
- "Founded in 1989 and located in the heart of London, the Centre for the Study of Democracy (CSD) is led by an interdisciplinary team of internationally renowned scholars in the fields of political theory, international relations, urban governance, communication and politics, European Union studies, Chinese visual culture and environmental and technological politics. CSD's research was rated of national and international importance in the most recent UK-wide Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2001), gaining 4 (out of 5) in the Politics subject area, and 5 in the Asian Studies subject area. In recent years, CSD has secured external funding for several major research programmes, such as the European Civil Society Network, the US Congressional party leadership project, the Ford Foundation project on The History of Democracy, the EU multi-level governance programme, the Chinese Poster project, and the Public Accountability of Science and Technology project. CSD actively collaborates with many research organisations within and beyond Britain, including the Policy Studies Institute (London), the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB), and the Smithsonian Institution (Washington DC). CSD also hosts a large postgraduate programme, attracting high-quality research students from all parts of the world. The Visiting Fellows programme forms an important part of the work of CSD." [1]
