Background on Plant

The two existing coal-fired units of China Resources Caofeidian power station, totaling 600 MW, were brought online in 2009. The plant is owned by China Resources, and was constructed by Tangshan City Construction Investment Co.[1][2] It is a heat and electricity co-generation power plant. The power plant was complained by local residents in 2015 for its air pollution caused by its uncovered coal storage.[3]

Expansion

China Resources is currently building two additional coal-fired units at this plant, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The new units were scheduled to be completed in 2015, [4] but as of 2017 are still under construction.[5]

Unit 3 was commissioned in May 2019.[6]
