About ALEC
ALEC is a corporate bill mill. It is not just a lobby or a front group; it is much more powerful than that. Through ALEC, corporations hand state legislators their wishlists to benefit their bottom line. Corporations fund almost all of ALEC's operations. They pay for a seat on ALEC task forces where corporate lobbyists and special interest reps vote with elected officials to approve “model” bills. Background

Previously, Herrera worked as head of public affairs for the James Madison Institute (JMI), described as trying to " ... keep the citizens of Florida informed about their government and to shape our state’s future through the advancement of practical free-market ideas on public policy issues."[2] Her responsiblities in this position included "policy research, media relations, marketing, and events."[1]

Before working at JMI, Herrera spent three years at the Cato Institute, where she directed policy events there and on Capitol Hill. She also worked as an assistant budget analyst for Steve Forbes' 2000 presidential campaign.[1]

Herrera spoke at the April 2011 Heritage Foundation "Ideas and Strategies that Will Lead the Way" Conference.[3]

She occasionally writes for Andrew Breitbart's "Big Government" blog.[4]

Her biography on the ALEC page also lists her as a contributing editor to the Heartland Institute's "Health Care News" publication.[1]
