Biography
"Chuck Leitner is Chief Executive Officer of the Berkshire Group, a real estate investment management company. Berkshire Group is recognized for its vertically-integrated platform and experience in the multifamily sector. Over more than four decades, Berkshire’s team of industry veterans has gained a reputation for identifying opportunities and effectively managing through various economic environments, establishing a long-term track record of solid performance based on thoughtful, leading edge strategies, and operational experience. The Company has experience across the multifamily real estate spectrum in disciplines including acquisitions, asset and property management, debt, development and redevelopment. Berkshire, a registered investment advisor, is headquartered in Boston, with offices in Atlanta, New York, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, and San Francisco.
"The former Global Head of RREEF, one of the world's largest real estate investment managers, Mr. Leitner served as Chairman of the ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance, a non-profit organization comprised of leading real estate investors focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions while creating value in property portfolios. Prior to Greenprint, Mr. Leitner spent 24 years at RREEF, a real estate investment management business and, most recently, a division of Deutsche Asset Management. During his long tenure at RREEF, Leitner served in a variety of roles, including Global Head of RREEF (CEO) and, most recently, RREEF Chairman. In these capacities, Mr. Leitner led the globalization of the real estate, infrastructure, private equity, and hedge fund businesses of Deutsche Asset Management under the RREEF Alternatives brand with $80 billion of assets under management. In July, 2010, Mr. Leitner stepped down from his executive responsibilities at RREEF to join the Greenprint Foundation as CEO. He also assumed the role of non-executive Chairman of RREEF to provide transitional leadership advice, strategic perspective and investment expertise to the RREEF management team and investment committees and served in that capacity until his departure in March, 2012.
"Mr. Leitner graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981 with a BA in Urban Studies. He currently serves the University of Pennsylvania as a member of the Board of Trustees, as Chairman of the Board of Overseers for Penn's Athletics, as a member of the Penn Medicine Board of Trustees and its Executive Committee, and as a member of the Board of Overseers for the Penn School of Design. He is a trustee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and serves on the Board of Pension and Real Estate Association (PREA)." [1]
