The Clean Coal Council was formed in 2007 by the Queensland Government "working with the coal industry to research and identify technologies that will ensure coal can continue to be used as a clean and environmentally friendly source of energy production," said Queensland Premier Peter Beattie. In went on to add that "As part of this process we established a $900 million fund comprising a government contribution of $300 million from the Queensland Future Growth Fund and $600 million over ten years from the State's coal industry."
