On December 23, 2008, the Kentucky Division of Air Quality issued a minor source air permit to Coal Synthetics, LLC, for a proposed coal-to-gas plant in Hawesville, Kentucky. In July 2010, the Sierra Club reported that Coal Synthetics was no longer pursuing the coal-to-gas plant in Hawesville, Kentucky. The original air permit was for a specific location, and Coal Synthetics no longer has rights to that site and will not pursue other land options for the project.[1]
