Committee for New American Leadership
The Committee for New American Leadership was formed in January 2000 [1] as a 527 committee by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Georgia). [2]
In the February 28, 2000, issue of BusinessWeek, Paula Dwyer, Lorraine Woellert, and Aaron Bernstein reported on the emergence of 527 committees: "But they're springing up everywhere. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich just converted his Friends of Newt Gingrich political action committee into a 527 called the Committee for New American Leadership. 'We're not going to be involved in any elections,' [said] spokesman Mike Shields. 'We're just going to talk big ideas.'"
The Committee's www.newamericanleadership.com website is no longer active.

Gingrich called his Committee for New American Leadership "a new kind of political activism for the 21st century" in June 2000. The Committee's "two front burner items" were a "'max tax,' or 25 percent cap on all taxation, federal state and local combined, and 'Social Security Plus' accounts for workers who choose to mix entrepreneurship with their pensions. 'It will save the Social Security system,'" Gingrich said. [3][4][5]
In June 2006, the SocialSecurityPlus website was inactive. The MaxTax.org website is still active and informs that it is a project of Americans for Tax Reform.
