Craig Engle is an attorney and lobbyist with the Washington, D.C.-based political law firm Arent Fox PLLC. Engle serves as the firm's political action committee (PAC) director and treasurer. [1]

Engle was described March 24, 2006, by James Jones of the Washington City Paper as a "big-time Republican operative." In April 2007, Engle was named as treasurer and contact for the new One Million Republicans PAC.

According to his Arent Fox profile, Craig Engle "served as General Counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) from 1995-2000; in that capacity he was responsible for the legal matters of a $90 million-per-cycle Republican National Political Party Committee. He acted as counselor to Members of the US Senate, their campaign committees, and candidates on all aspects of election and office-holder laws, including Federal Election Commission (FEC), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), lobbying, ethics, incorporation, insurance, and other matters.

"From 1986-1995 Craig served at the Federal Election Commission as Executive Assistant to a Commissioner, where he oversaw litigation and enforcement matters brought under the Federal Election Campaign Act."

Engle is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Ohio Bar, Supreme Court of Ohio, Supreme Court of the United States, and the US Court of Appeals, District of Columbia Circuit.

Engle graduated in 1985 from Georgetown University Law Center, JD, and in 1982 from the University of Cincinnati, BA (summa cum laude).

Engle is a member of the D.C. Republican Committee. [2]

In 2004, Engle served as an outside adviser to the College Republican National Committee regarding "an aggressive and misleading fund-raising campaign that collected money from senior citizens who thought they were giving to the election efforts of President Bush and other top Republicans" [3], later serving as CRNC's attorney in the matter. [4]

In April 2005 [5] and May 2006 [6], Engle represented Log Cabin Republicans.

On November 22, 2005, The Hill reported that "DC United, a professional soccer team based in Washington, has hired Arent Fox to lobby on the federal and local government on matters that include the construction of a new stadium. The lobbyists working for the United include Craig Engle, a former general counsel to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and Jon Boucher, the former chief counsel and legislative director to Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and minority counsel for Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.)."

Commentary

In November 2005, D of the The DCenters Blog said of Engle:

"Craig Engle's profile looks fairly good for a lobbyist, though he seems to be primarily concerned with Campaign Finance issues as opposed to either Federal/Municipal relations or real estate valuations/development. That being said, he looks to be a good person to talk with the red seats in the house based on his work with the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He may raise a few eyebrows from blue lobbyists who have associated his name with various 'Republican fundraising hijinks' but I personally feel better knowing that he's been associated with certain organizations that make me believe he's not a ideologue. ... Engle seems to offer more federal legislative know-how and connections to the ruling GOP."
