DDK Tours

DDK Tours "was established in 1985 by Charles L. Alphin Sr. when he was a sergeant in the St. Louis Police Department, as an educational and historical venture for all people. He was introduced to Kingian Nonviolence by Dr. Bernard LaFayette Jr. and received training at The King’s Centers Annual Summer Institute for Kingian Nonviolence. Realizing how misinformed he was concerning nonviolence and Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., he wanted to share this information with others, especially youth. Alphin Sr. then started organizing Educational and Training tours to The King Center, Atlanta GA.

"In 1992 at the request of Mrs. Coretta Scott King, Alphin Sr. moved to Atlanta, GA with his wife Joyce and joined the Educational and Training Staff of the King Center. In 1994 he was appointed Director, Education and Training department.

"DDK Historical and Educational Tours consist of three areas in the United States: (1) South-West Tour: Nashville, TN; Memphis, TN; Greenwood, MS; Jackson, MS; and Philadelphia, MS; (2) Mid-South Tour: Atlanta, GA; Montgomery, AL; Selma, AL; and Birmingham, AL; (3) South-East Tour: Nashville, TN; New Market, TN; Charleston, SC; Johns Island, SC; Savannah, GA; and Atlanta, GA.

"In 1995 DDK Tours expanded to annual educational and historical tours to South Africa, The Mother Land. In 2004, Charles L. Alphin, Jr., initiated the “Young Ambassadors for Nonviolence” which includes learning abroad for high school and college youth."
