Background on Plant
Daba power station is a six-unit coal-fired power station of 2,520 MW. It was commissioned from 1991 to 2009, and is owned by China Huaneng (1-4 units) and China Datang (5-6 units). Units 5-6 are also known as Daba-2.[1]
Nationwide Restrictions Imposed on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity
In 2016 China's National Energy Administration issued "scale control" (coal-fired capacity limits) on particular "sending out" locations that feed ultra-high voltage (UHV) long-distance power lines, including Inner Mongolia (Xilingong), Inner Mongolia (Ordos), Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Xinjiang.[2]
As of January 2017, the affected area includes this power station, which may be scaled down as a result.
For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
Daba-4
China Huaneng is planning to build the Daba-4 power station with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW (also known as Daba Power Station Units 7-8) near units 1-6 of the Daba power station.[3],[4]
