Background
Since 2000 Murphy has contributed a weekly column, "The Vocal Point" to The Meatingplace.com, a food industry news publication which he founded in 1996. He describes his column as bringing "a mainstream sensibility to activist-driven discussions of policies affecting food safety, animal rights and diet and health issues." [3]
Murphy worked Vice President of Public Affairs for the American Meat Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying organization "where he headed up media relations and helped build a proactive agenda for communicating the membership's viewpoint on Capitol Hill and within the federal regulatory agencies." [4]
A biographical note lists him as a former editor of MMT magazine the Pacific Northwest. [5]
A biographical note states that he has been "a reporter, writer, and editor of several B2B magazines and trade publications" over twenty years. During this time he was involved in "creating or re-launching the editorial content of six monthly magazines in fields ranging from clinical medicine to meatpacking to commercial embroidery," the biographical note states. [6]
"A self-described 'concept specialist,' Dan has made a career of taking complex technical and scientific information and refining it into clear, concise communications across both marketing and editorial channels," it states.
He is a member of the International Association Business Communicators.
"As editor-in chief of such food-industry business publications as National Provisioner and Meat Marketing & Technology, he debated activists on National Public Radio, addressed such groups as the Southeastern Poultry & Egg Association, the American Association of Meat Processors and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and delivered a pro-industry speech at the 2002 national Animal Rights Convention," the media release announcing his merger with Outsource Marketing states.
