Datang Binchang power station (大唐彬长发电厂二期) is a 1,260-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Shaanxi Province, China.

An additional 2,000 MW is proposed.

Background on power station

The existing power station is a 2 x 630 MW power station in the city of Xianyang. The units went into operation in 2009. The power station is owned by China Datang and Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group.

Expansion

China Datang has proposed a 2 x 1,000 MW expansion of the power station, raising the plant's total capacity to 3,260 MW. An environmental impact assessment for the two additional units was submitted in 2014.

In November 2016 the Shaanxi Government sent a letter to the Central government's inspector team saying it planned to shelve Datang Binchang because it would violate environmental regulations in the province. According to the letter, it was the Xianyang city government's idea to develop the power plant.

However, the plant appears in a list of major projects planned by Shaanxi province for 2019, suggesting it has been revived.
