Background on Plant
The plant began as Tangshan-1 (also known as Tangshan General power station), a 5 x 50 MW coal plant in Lubei District commissioned from 1985 to 1996. The plant is owned by China Datang.[2]
The five units were planned for retirement as part of Ministry of Environment requirements to receive a permit for construction of a larger coal plant, known as Datang Tangshan-2. The new 2 x 300 MW coal plant was commissioned in 2005.[3]
After two years operation of Tangshan-2, Tangshan-1 was still operating. It resulted in Datang Power International Co. being publicly criticized by the Ministry of Environment in 2007 and a punishment for Tangshan City government.[4][5]
In 2007, Tangshan-1 was retired.[2]
In June 2019 it was reported Datang Tangshan-2 would be relocated to a less populous area, known as Datang Tangshan Ciyutuo power station.[6]
