Datong-1 power station (中煤大同能源公司发电厂) is a 270-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant and Datong-2 (国电电力大同第二发电厂) a 3,720 MW coal-fired power plant in Shanxi Province, China.

Background on Plant

Datong-1 power station consists of two 135 MW units built in 2013. The first five units have been retired. It is majority-owned by ChinaCoal. Datong-2 power station is a ten-unit coal-fired power station totaling 3,720 MW. It was built from 1984 to 2009. It was originally majority-owned by China Guodian.

Ownership

On August 28 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer. The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.
