David Klingner

Dr David Klingner, was appointed a Director of the Energy Resources of Australia "Board in July 2004 and elected Chairman in January 2005. He has been with the Rio Tinto Group since 1966 and retired in 2004. Dr Klingner has a PhD in geology and in 1982 was appointed as Group Geologist in charge of Rio Tinto’s overseas and petroleum exploration division. In 1987 he was appointed Managing Director Kaltim Prima Coal in Indonesia, after returning to Melbourne in 1984 as Group Executive responsible for all coal and gold businesses, located throughout Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. He was Chairman of the Board of Coal & Allied Industries Ltd, Pacific Coal Ltd, Bougainville Copper Ltd and the World Coal Institute, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Codan Limited. In 1997 he was transferred to London as Head of Exploration and accountable for the world-wide exploration efforts of the Rio Tinto Group. He was also a member of Rio Tinto’s Executive Committee."
