Background on Plant

Dengfeng-1 power station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 420 MW. The plant's first nine units have been retired. The currently operating units were completed in 2005, and are owned by Dengfeng Power Plant Group.[1]

In June 2019 it was reported plant owner Dengfeng Power Plant Group had received notice from the city government to shut down the plant's two units. Dengfeng is objecting because the company recently completed retrofits at the plant with modern emissions controls, which had received approval from the government. If Dengfeng does not appeal the order successfully, the plant will be shut down by the end of 2020. No compensation is being offered.[2]
