Derek Wyatt

Biography

"Derek is currently the Chairman of Trinity Hospice in Clapham which serves six boroughs north and south of the Thames. He also sits on the International Advisory Board at Whistling Woods in Bollywood, Mumbai and CITI at Columbia University.

"Previously, Derek was MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey from 1997 – 2010. He was on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee from 1997-2005 and the Public Accounts Committee in 2007, before becoming the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Rt Hon Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for the Arts and then PPS to Lord Malloch Brown at the Foreign Office. In Parliament, Derek chaired the All Party Communications Group which morphed out of the All Party Internet Group which he founded in 1997. He stood down from Parliament in May 2010.

"Before being elected as an MP, Derek produced documentaries for BBC, ITV and Channel 4 and was the Founder and Director of The Computer Channel at BSkyB. In 2000, he founded the Oxford Internet Institute and, more recently, he created a Digital Day for the Nation, which has since become a Digital Week. He has won four national awards for his work in the internet space. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Industry & Parliament Trust as well as a Freeman of the City of London. He has written seven books including Wisecracks from the Movies."
