Background

Dolna Odra Power Station is a coal-fired power station at Nowe Czarnowo near Gryfino in West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland. It consists of 8 units, with capacities ranging from 215 to 232 MW. It was commissioned from 1974 to 1977.[1]

Units 3-4 were retired in 2012 and 2014. Units 1-2 are on standby.[2]

Proposed gas-fired capacity

PGE has proposed adding up to 1,434 MW of gas-fired capacity at the power station. In June 2019, PGE said it was seeking a contractor to design, deliver, construct and commission two combined cycle gas turbine units of 650-717 MW each at the plant under a turnkey contract. Bids are due by July 31 and the completion of the investment is scheduled for December 2023. Both units will have the possibility to cogenerate heat as well as electricity.[3]

Gas may be imported from Norway via the Baltic Pipe Project or Poland's Świnoujście Polskie LNG Terminal.[3]
