Donald W. Grimm
"A Director with Hamilton BioVentures, Donald W. Grimm also serves as Chair of fund's Life Science Executive Advisory Board. He has had a distinguished career with Eli Lilly & Company, which spanned both the pharmaceutical business as well as the biotechnology and medical device businesses. He held various pharmaceutical management positions with Lilly including Director of Worldwide Pharmaceutical Pricing, Director of Pharmaceutical Market Research, and Director of Sales for the pharmaceutical business on the West Coast of the United States, Chairman of Pacific Biotech and V.P. of the Medical Devices & Diagnostics division.
"Mr. Grimm was President, CEO and Chairman of Hybritech, Inc after its acquisition by Lilly. While at Hybritech, he orchestrated the development of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), the most significant new cancer diagnostic test ever developed for men. Hybritech went from $50 million to $150 million in revenues under Grimm’s leadership. His experiences with Lilly & Hybritech included significant business activities in Europe and Asia before retiring at the end of 1993. Mr. Grimm served as President, CEO and board member of Telios Pharmaceuticals in San Diego from June until December of 1994.
"In 1995, Mr. Grimm established Strategic Design, a consulting group focused on strategic planning and serves as Chairman & President. He is on the Board of ATI, Invitrogen, CellzDirect, Angstrom Pharmaceuticals, Q3DM, and Aegis Therapuetics. From 1995 until 1998, he also was the West Coast Managing Director for Copenhagen Capacity, a Danish trade group focused on biotechnology and medical devices. The San Diego Corporate Directors Forum recognized his work at Invitrogen with its 2004 "Director of the Year" award in the category "Enhancement of Economic Value."
"Mr. Grimm is on the boards of the Green Cancer Center at Scripps Clinic, the UCSD Cancer Center Foundation and the Scripps Clinic Advisory Board, and The Office of Enterprise Development at The University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences.
"He Chaired the San Diego Mayor’s Task Force on Effectiveness and Efficiency in City Government and was Chair of the San Diego County Economic Advisory Board and led their deregulation effort.
"Mr. Grimm has also served on the boards of the San Diego Children's Museum, the California Biotechnology Industry Association, the California Healthcare Institute, San Diego Tech Coast Angels, Chairman's Roundtable, The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors, The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and was Vice Chair of the San Diego Business Roundtable for Education.
"Mr. Grimm served as an officer in the U.S. Army, Medical Service Corps. He has both a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh." [1]
