Duyen Hai coal port

Location
The Duyen Hai Power Generation Complex is located in the Duyên Hải district of Trà Vinh province.[1]
Background: Stage I
In April 2013, construction began on a US$280 million coal seaport for the Duyen Hai Power Generation Complex, also at Dan Thanh Commune in Duyen Hai District. The seaport is being built by China Communications Construction, and is expected to be completed in late 2015. It will be capable of handling 12 million tonnes of coal per year for consumption at the power complex's three plants.[2] Coal will be imported from Australia and Indonesia.[3]
Units 1 and 2 of Duyen Hai Power Generation Complex began commercial operation in June 2015.[4] The terminal is planned to be completed in December 2015.[5]
Stage II Expansion
In March 2016, the Vietnamese Government said it was looking to expand the Duyen Hai coal terminal from 12 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) capacity to 40 Mtpa by 2020.The government’s revised 2016 Power Development Plan projects coal demand could grow from about 47.5 million tonnes in 2016 to 156.6 million tonnes by 2030, with over three-quarters used in the power sector.[6]
