Elegest coal mine

Elegest coal mine is operated by Tuva Energy Industry Corporation (TEPK), who want it to be Russia's largest coking coal mine[1] extending its capacity to 20 million tonnes.[2]

The coal mine is proposed to be located in the Tuva republic, in the south of Eastern Siberia, Russia. The map below shows the approximate location.

Coal Mine Background

In 2006-2009 TEPK carried out exploration of the Elegestskoye coal deposit.[3] TEPK plans to build a coal port terminal at Vanino Port in Khabarovsk Krai, and build the Elegest-Kyzyl-Kuragino railway to transport coal from the mine to the port for export.[1] The trainline is expected to be operational in 2023.[4]
