Ernest Stern "joined the World Bank in January 1972. He served as Senior Adviser in the Office of the Economic Adviser to the President (January – October 1972); Senior Advisor, Development Policy, in the Office of the Vice President for Development Policy (1972-1974); Director, Development Policy (1974-1975); Vice President, South Asia Region (1975-1978), Vice President, Operations (1978-1980); Vice President and Senior Vice President, Operations (1978-1987); Senior Vice President, Finance (1987-1991); and Managing Director (1991-1995). He retired in 1995." [1]
