The Ethiopian Free Press Journalists’ Association EJFA) "is a non-profit organization that was established in accordance with the resolutions adopted by the founding conference of EJFA that was held on 11 March 1993 and the Constitution and Internal Regulations that were endorsed at the Second General Congress (20 December 1998) of members of the Free Press. In early 2000, the EJFA was registered as an official NGO after a seven-year battle for legal recognition." [1]
1996: "Kefale Mammo is the President of the Ethiopian Free Press Journalists Association founded in 1993 and a member of the International Federation of Journalists which was represented here by Aidan White." [2] Still president in 1999.[3]
1999: Kifle Mulat, chairperson of the Ethiopian Free Press Journalists Association. [4]
2001: "Kibret Mekonnen, 30, Kinfu Assefa, 30 and Kefale Mammo, 63 are living in exile in Amsterdam. Together, they are on the international committee of the Ethiopian Free Press Journalists Association (EFJA). The other 40 journalists are scattered all over the world and are too far apart to keep effective communication with each other." [5]
